New Leaders Take Charge Of Storied Jersey Brigade Change Of Command Ceremony For 50th IBCT
WHO/WHAT: Col. Kenneth S. Schechter assumes command of the New Jersey Army National Guard's 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, the unit that spearheaded the state's largest combat deployment since World War II. Schechter, of Toms River, takes over for the outgoing commander, Col. Steven Ferrari, of Berlin, who led the 50th Brigade during its 2008-2009 Iraq deployment. Schechter served as the deputy commander during the unit's combat tour. During the ceremony, Command Sgt. Major Timothy Marvian, of Vineland, will replace Command Sgt. Major David Kenna, of Newfield, as the brigade's top enlisted Soldier. The brigade was responsible for the two main U.S. military detention facilities in Iraq. The brigade also orchestrated the transfer of the Baghdad's International Zone from American to Iraqi control.
